Creating data usage documentation

As a general rule it is highly recommended to use the Engrafo automation options to create new data usage information pages and automatically load as much information as possible this way. But many occasions may arise where a manual creation is needed. Luckily this is quite simple and intuitive in Engrafo.

Simply click “create new”, select where in the data usage hierarchy it should be placed, what template to use, give it a name and voila!

Once this is done it is just about filling in the information. This is also the case if you want to manually add information to an existing data usage documentation in Engrafo.

Click the edit button to open the documentation, click the small “+” sign to add one of the predetermined sections for the template, and click the now blue headline to edit that particular field.

How to input the information depends entirely on the field type selected in the template. One example is mapping the data in an input/output used in the “job”. Simply find the data with the data catalog browser embedded and click the relevant columns used.

Maybe especially for input/output data we certainly recommend setting up an automated process for this. One simple way to do this is described here Metadata and documentation load | Generating Data Usage documentation via .csv load. But of course with information only existing inside the head of key employees, this manual process is still quite easy - and very necessary!
