Browsing the Data Catalog

Browsing the Data Catalog

To navigate the Engrafo Data Catalog you can use the tree-structure on the left side.

The structure is defined as: Category → Database → Schema → Table → Column

In the picture below the Table “Cities” is clicked. On the right you will see a box called “Table” and a list of the columns in the current table.

In this example the template used for tables and columns contains the fields “Description”, “UpdatedBy” and “LastUpdated”. You can have many more fields which can be defined under the menu item: “Data Catalog Templates”. Here it is also possible to define if a field should be shown in the list or not.

You can read more about configuring your Data Catalog here: Configuring Templates for the Data Catalog

You will also see a button “Export” on the tree view allowing you the export individual parts of your Data Catalog as a csv file. When clicked, you will be able to select what Categories, Databases, Schemas etc. will be exported using the menu on the left.

Before exporting you also have an option to Include ID values in the export or change the separator. Clicking “Include ID Values” will download the Data Catalog with the id for each element that it has in the database

This can later be used to upload data containing ids and for instance apply changes to column names other column attributes. Likewise, this applies to databases, schemas and tables too. See Loading Metadata and Documentations for more information on uploading csv files.
