Creating a Data Glossary

Creating a Data Glossary

The Data Glossary in Engrafo is a great way to organize terms and definitions in you organization. Engrafo also offers features to easily access terms where ever you might find them throughout the solution. When navigating to the glossary you will see a list containing all your definitions along side a search bar and options to create new items or delete all.

As you can see our Data Glossary doesn't contain anything yet. To start creating a Glossary of all your terms you have the following two options:

Manually Managing Your Data Glossary

One option is to create your definitions manually. Simply click “Create New” provide a name and description and your Data Glossary item will be created. You also have options to create folders as to organize your glossary.

If you now navigate to the Data Catalog, or where ever else this term might be present. You will now see your term highlighted. When Hovering over it you will also see the description.

Loading Data Glossary via .CSV Load

Another, higher recommended option, is to load your Glossary via the Load Metadata Feature in Engrafo. To do this, navigate to: Load Metadata → Load Data Glossary and just upload your csv file.

Keep in mind, your csv file must look as the following:

Load a csv file that has the following required columns:

Path

Description

Path

Description

The path dictates how the glossary will structured, automatically creating folders for your glossary items. Below is an example of what the structure might look like with the character ¤ selected as the separator:

Path¤Description folder1/folder2/item1¤This is a description for item 1 folder1/item2¤This is a description for item 2 item3¤This is a description for item 3 item4¤This is a description for item 4

And the description is simply the explanation of the respective item.

See Loading Metadata and Documentations for a full guide on loading .csv files in Engrafo.
