Creating Sample Spaces

Creating Sample Spaces

Uploading sample spaces is easy in Engrafo and is a great way to assign descriptions to values for the Data Catalog.

Sample spaces can easily be created using the Metadata load feature. Just upload a csv containing a sample space, a value and a description. See: Loading Metadata and Documentations | Generating Sample Space via .CSV Loadto see everything the csv file must contain.

To actually view sample spaces in the Data Catalog, you must first make sure that a sample space-field is created. Keep in mind that sample spaces can only be added to column units. Just navigate to “Data Catalog Templates” and click on “Column Fields”. From here, create a new field, choose column unit, field name, set field type as sample space and click create. See: Configuring Templates for the Data Catalog for a complete guide to Data Catalog Templates

Manually creating/editing sample space

It is also possible to manually create and edit sample spaces. However, we do recommend that you use the metadata loader API to automatically create sample spaces: Loading Metadata and Documentations | Generating Sample Space via .CSV Load

When navigating to: Metadata Structure → Sample Space, you can manually create new sample spaces as well as manage existing ones. Under “Overview” you get a complete overview of current sample spaces and their properties. To create a new sample space, simply click create and add a name and a description if wanted.

However this sample space doesn't contain anything yet. To add values to this sample space head over to “Elements in Sample Space.

From here, you can either choose a sample space to view and edit all existing elements in that sample space, or simply create new elements. Just choose the sample space you wish to add to, and add a value and a description

Assuming you have created a column field for sample spaces, you will now see this inside the Data Catalog.
